What is ASE?
The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) was established in 1972 as an independent and non-profit organization. Their mission is to improve the quality of auto repair service and auto repair mechanics by testing and certification. With almost a half a million mechanics ASE certified, you can find them throughout the USA working in auto repair shops, auto dealerships, and all kinds of car and truck service stations.
What is ASE Certified
You have probably seen the blue and white ASE logo at auto repair service shops if you have ever had repair service done on your vehicle. Whether your car needed engine repair, brake repair or auto body repair, that auto repair shop is telling you that they have the ASE certified credentials and that they have the skilled mechanics to repair your car properly.
Becoming ASE certified is not easy. There are about 40 different tests that auto mechanics and repair technicians can take. Some of the exams are for auto service consultants, engine repair, truck equipment repair and many more.
Once ASE certified, mechanics and auto repair specialists will continue to be tested every 5 years to keep their certifications. This helps ensure that they are kept up to date with new technologies and procedures. Although it’s not guaranteed you will get the best auto repair service, at least you know the auto repair shop that has ASE certified mechanics cares about hiring well qualified and trained professionals.
